RotoLine Incremental Magnetic Encoders How it works
Incremental magnetic encoders combine an internal magnetic sensor and an internal magnetic ring with a rotatable shaft.
Illustration of the incremental magnetic encoder internal system
As the shaft of the encoder turns, the sensor reads the magnetic poles embedded on the magnetic ring.

The encoder outputs a set number of A/B pulses1 between each pole.

The pulses are received by a SIKO display or PLC, and the displayed position value is increased or decreased.2 1 The number of pulses between poles is called the interpolation rate 2 Increase or decrease depends on the direction of the rising A or B pulse
