MagLine Absolute
How it works
MagLine Absolute systems are a combination of:
- Band (required)
- Sensor (required)
- Translation module (depends on system)
- Display or PLC
The band is attached1 to the measurement surface.
The sensor is mounted within a range of the band2, but the band and sensor do not actually make physical contact.
1 The band is usually mounted with the attached adhesive backing, but it can also be clamped, screwed or glued down 2 This range is called the sensor gap or rideheight
As the powered sensor is moved along the path of the band, it reports a unique binary address at certain intervals on the band.3
3 The distance between the poles is called the pole pitch
Each address is translated into a numeric position by
- the sensor's on-board translator or
- an external translation module
Because each pole and address on the band is unique, Absolute system components can be separated and/or powered down without losing position.
